    Cost for MADSA members: $50 for first person, $25 each for additional attendees from same organization

    Description of presentations: 

    1. Debra Yamstein will offer a 2-hour training to introduce learners to Teepa Snow's Positive Approach to Care Philosophy. Attendees will begin to develop skills to positively engage people living with dementia (PLwD) and effective communication tools to make care tasks easier for both the direct care staff and the PLwD.

    Debra is the Vice President of Senior Adult and Non-vocational Services at JVS Human Services. In her previous role, she oversaw the dementia-specific Brown Adult Day Program. She is a Certified PAC Trainer who loves to affect positive change for people living with dementia.  


    2. Courtney Minnich will be presenting on the importance of exercise in older population and how to provide safe and fun exercise program. She will present different options for classes, focusing on different types of exercise, including a sample class. Courtney will gladly answer questions to help you incorporate fun and successful exercise classes into your program.

    Courtney is a graduate of Grand Valley State University with a bachelor's degree in clinical Exercise Science. For the past three years, she has worked in programming and health monitoring for the aging population at The Day Center of Evergreen Commons in Holland. Courtney routinely presents various exercise classes and Health Education topics, as well as co-leads a class on brain health at Evergreen Commons Senior Center.


    3. MADSA Administrative Assistant Carrie VanDerKolk will also lead a short presentation on the sessions she attends at the NADSA's annual conference in Baltimore.

    Join us for an all-day training session on How To Start an Adult Day Center in Michigan. Session #1 will be held on Tuesday, October 23 at the Hannah Community Center in East Lansing from 9 am until 3 pm. This session will focus on considerations for opening a successful program. Topics will include funding and revenue streams, how to determine your community’s needs, creating a budget, making a business plan, awareness marketing, and types of facilities and equipment. Several Adult Day Service professionals will present and be available for questions. A notebook and informative hand-outs will be provided.

    Join us for an all-day training session on How To Start an Adult Day Center in Michigan. Session #2 will be held on Wednesday, November 7 at the Hannah Community Center in East Lansing from 9 am until 3 pm. This session will focus on the logistics of operating a successful program. We will explore the importance of documentation and measurable outcomes, job descriptions and staffing concerns, program activities and services, focused marketing, and we will give an introduction on how to effectively communicate with and serve individuals living with dementia. Several Adult Day Service professionals will present and be available for questions. A notebook and informative hand-outs will be provided.
